Home Economics & English Join Forces!

As part of the home economics programme students complete a CBA in creative textiles. Students were presented with a brief and they were asked to complete a textile-based item for an individual or the home having been inspired by prescribed material from their English class.

Students brainstormed items they could make as part of their task and came up with some wonderful ideas. As a class they decided that they would make bookmarks based on the film, “Whale Rider” which they are studying as part of their junior cycle English course. This also tied in very well with world book day. Whale Rider is full of colourful and inspiring imagery, and this was reflected in the students’ work where they demonstrated various stitching, felting and beading techniques! The students were very proud of their one-of-a-kind bookmarks!
