Vocational Development

Vocational Development Programme Hours

First Year:
9:00 am to 12:10pm – Skills Areas
12:10pm to 1:00pm – Lunch and Recreation

1:00pm to 3:00pm – Academic Classes

Second Year:
9:30 am to 12:15pm – Academic Classes 12:15pm to 1:00pm – Lunch and Recreation

1:00pm to 4:00pm – Skills Areas

The Programme: Academic Classes

Students will be assigned to teachers in the Vocational Development classes to follow subjects and Short Courses at Junior Cert and Junior Cycle level 2.


Each student will complete modules from the following list-

    • Office Procedures
    • Horticulture
    • Caring for Children
    • Communications
    • Food and Nutrition
    • Craft Textiles
    • Personal Care & Presentation

    • Personal & Interpersonal Skills
    • Health Related Fitness
    • Drama
    • Work Orientation
    • Music Appreciation
    • Preparation for Work
    • Personal Effectiveness

Saint Augustine’s is an accredited centre for the delivery of FETAC programmes.

The Programme: Skills Areas

Skills Areas Induction Period (1st Year students only) Students will sample all skill areas on a rotational basis; Horticulture, Catering, Office and Retail Skills, Car Valeting, General Skills, Social Skills and Personal Development.

2nd Year students will be assigned a specific skill area for the duration of their final year.

Dress Code

Students do not wear a uniform but are required to dress presentably and adhere to Saint Augustine’s dress code. For Health and Safety reasons all students, while working in the Skills Areas, are required to have

  • 1 pair of steel capped safety boots clearly marked with student’s name.
  • 1 pair of overalls (navy blue) clearly marked with student’s name.

A mix of work and leisure activities is provided by the Vocational Skills Instructors for the first three weeks of July.
